15 Benefits of Scripture Writing is an article I wrote to show you, my dear reader, that besides the many spiritual blessings you receive when handwriting Scripture, there are also other advantages.
I’m a fervent Scripture Writer for many years. Without knowing about the spiritual benefits when it all started, I enjoyed it so much and couldn’t stop.
It all started during a move from one place to another when my box with Bibles got lost. I prayed that the box would end up with people who could use them, but it was still a while before I could purchase myself another Bible.
Most of the Scriptures I used in the “31 Scriptures Series” come from Scriptures I wrote down during that time.
Each morning before my prayer time, I prayed the Lord will show me what Scriptures to write down, and then I would pray the Scripture back to Him.
This filled me with overflowing peace and faith. My prayer binder became one of my most treasured possessions, and I could go back and look at anything I was praying about.
Have you ever tried Scripture Writing?
Or are you feeling overwhelmed with all the different Bible Study methods and things to do during your quiet time with God?
I felt that way too, but the secret is that you do not have to do it all in one sitting.
May you clearly hear the voice of the Holy Spirit ministering to you while reading about the benefits of Scripture Writing.
15 Benefits Of Scripture Writing.
1. Scripture Writing Assists Us To Reflect.
Because writing takes longer than reading, it will help you to ponder and meditate on the Scripture. We tend to forget what we read only, while writing helps our brains to be stimulated and we will find deeper revelations in the written Scripture.
2. Scripture Writing Assists Our Thinking.
When we read the Word of God, our thoughts can easily be distracted, while writing stimulates the brain and assist in thinking about the meaning of the Scripture.
3. Scripture Writing Assists Us To Remember.
When writing (handwriting, not typing) our brains are stimulated through eye and hand coordination, and we remember the Scripture better.
4. Scripture Writing Assists Us To Come Across Overlooked Specifics.
When only reading we can easily miss important words or phrases and writing assists us to come across some truths that are revealed to us.
5. Scripture Writing Enables Us To Make The Word Our Own.
When we write the Word of God we ponder the words and are more likely to discover deeper dimensions in the Scripture, compared to reading alone. There can also be words or phrases that will become the Rhema Word for us, meaning the Scripture becomes our own.
6. Scripture Writing Opens Our Spiritual Eyes.
The Word of God is alive, and the Holy Spirit minister to us when we spend time in His Word. The Lord confirms His promises to us and shows us when we need to apply them to our own lives.
7. Scripture Writing Enriches Our Prayer Time.
When God confirmed a promise of Scripture to us, it is wonderful to personalize a Scripture by adding your own name, or the names of those you are interceding for and pray God’s Word back to Him.
8. Scripture Writing Assists Our Obedience To God.
One of my all-time favorite Scriptures is Psalm 1:1-3 which says that the man who delights himself in the Word of God and meditates on it day and night, shall be like a tree planted by the river, that brings forth fruit in season, his leaf shall not wither and whatever he does shall prosper.
Scripture Writing assists us to meditate on the Word of God, we will fill ourselves with His Word that will cause us to bear fruit, help us to persevere in difficult times, and to obey God.
9. Scripture Writing Increases Our Faith.
Before writing the Scripture down, we read it and listen to it with our spiritual ears. “…..faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” Romans 10:17
10. Scripture Writing Increases Our Wisdom.
Timothy tells us in 2 Timothy 3:14-15 to continue in what we have learned and to know the Holy Scriptures, which can make us wise for salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.
11. Scripture Writing Assists To Keep Us Involved.
Writing Scripture keeps our brains involved with the task at hand, helping us to reap the best benefits from our time spent with God.
12. Scripture Writing Assists Us To Become Humble.
While writing the Word of God, helps us to keep our mind and focus habitually on the heavenly things, and not on the earthly things with temporal value. (Colossians 3:2) This habit will help us toward humility.
13. Scripture Writing Assists Us To Stay Dedicated To God.
When we formed a new habit to spend time with God in His Word it helps us to stay dedicated to Him. By writing Scripture we are intimate with God by writing out His words of life.
14. Scripture Writing Assists Us In Writing The Word Of God In Our Hearts.
When we write Scripture, our ability to learn and remember it increases, and as a result, we write the Word of God on the tablets of our hearts. To have it written in our hearts is one of the most precious places to have it, no one will ever be able to take it away from us.
Proverbs 3:3 tells us to be defined by mercy, kindness, and truth, and write them on the tablets of our hearts.
15. We Will Be Blessed Through Scripture Writing.
After reading through all the above benefits of Scripture Writing I’m sure you will agree with me that most of the benefits are also blessings.
The Lord told Joshua in Joshua 1:7 that the law (the Word of God) shall not depart from his mouth, but that he must meditate on it day and night, for then he will be successful in all his ways.
It is my prayer you were blessed by this article, and if you are not already handwriting Scripture, be inspired to do so.
