31 Scriptures On The Tongue is the last post in a two-part series on Scriptures on the Tongue.
Jesus said whatever words we speak come from the heart and this is what defiles and dishonors us (Matthew 15:18).
Although James said it is impossible to tame the tongue, I believe with prayer and guidance from the Holy Spirit it is possible, not easy, but definitely possible.
May the Holy Spirit minister you through these Scriptures to not only help us to put a guard before our mouths but also to apply self-control.
31 Scriptures On The Tongue
1. Arrow shot out
“Their tongue is an arrow shot out;
Jeremiah 9:8
It speaks deceit;
One speaks peaceably to his neighbor with his mouth,
But in his heart he lies in wait.”
2. Be transformed into the image of Christ

3. Brood of vipers
“Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” ”
Matthew 12:34-37
4. The danger of hellfire
“But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire.”

Their inward part is destruction;
Their throat is an open tomb;
They flatter with their tongue.”
10. Heritage of the Lord’s servants

You shall condemn.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,

Says the Lord.”

Under his tongue is trouble and iniquity.”

Nor my tongue utter deceit.”
14. Speak evil of no one

They weary themselves to commit iniquity.”
22. The tongue of the learned
“The Lord God has given Me
Isaiah 50:4
The tongue of the learned,
That I should know how to speak
A word in season to him who is weary.
He awakens Me morning by morning,
He awakens My ear
To hear as the learned.”
23. Tongue like a razor
“Your tongue devises destruction,
Psalm 52:2-4
Like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.
You love evil more than good,
Lying rather than speaking righteousness. Selah
You love all devouring words,
You deceitful tongue.”
24. Unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
“For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.
Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body.
Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires.
Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things.
See how great a forest a little fire kindles!
And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell.
For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind.
But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God.
Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.
Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening?
Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh.”
James 3:2-12
25. Venom of asps
“Their throat is an open]tomb;
Romans 3:13
With their tongues they have practiced deceit”;
“The poison of asps is under their lips” ”
26. Words and meditation be acceptable
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
Psalm 19:14
Be acceptable in Your sight,
O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.”
27. Words defile you
“But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man.”
Matthew 15:18
28. Words that build-up
“Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.”
Ephesians 4:29
29. Who may dwell with God?
“Lord, who may abide in Your tabernacle?
Who may dwell in Your holy hill?He who walks uprightly,
Psalm 15:1-3
And works righteousness,
And speaks the truth in his heart;
He who does not backbite with his tongue,
Nor does evil to his neighbor,
Nor does he take up a reproach against his friend”
30. Whom do you ridicule?
“Whom do you ridicule?
Isaiah 57:4
Against whom do you make a wide mouth
And stick out the tongue?
Are you not children of transgression,
Offspring of falsehood”
31. You know my words
“For there is not a word on my tongue,
