The Modus Operandi Of Jesus

The Modus Operandi Of Jesus
The Modus Operandi Of Jesus

The Modus Operandi Of Jesus is part of our At His Feet Bible Study Series and gives us a better understanding of the way Jesus operated during His early days of ministry.

The Latin word modus operandi simply means to do something in a specific way or manner.

Jesus brought His own fresh way of ministering to the people about Him, His Father, and the Kingdom of God, to leave an example for His disciples to follow.

I pray you will clearly discern the voice of the Holy Spirit ministering to you and reveal what He wants to teach you from this Scripture.

The Modus Operandi Of Jesus

“And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them. Great multitudes followed Him—from Galilee, and from Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan.”

The Background About The Synagogues

There was only one Temple in Jerusalem where sacrifices could be done, there were no other events happening in the Temple.

Jesus hand-picked the synagogues in Galilee to start His ministry.

In those times the synagogue was a sacred place for the Jews to come together for services and to learn from the Scriptures.

The point of the synagogue was to teach and to learn.

All synagogues had a President who will oversee the services and programs, but anyone could teach.

The program would start with prayers, then believers could take part in reading Scriptures from the prophets and the law.

Next, there was the address that is somewhat like a sermon of sorts that anyone can give.

Lastly, came the discussions, questions, and answers.

Anyone who had the desire to learn more about God and the Scriptures could be actively involved in these activities.

The synagogue was the perfect place for Jesus to start His work to serve as a testimony to others that He is the Son of God.

Jesus teaches and preaches in the synagogues about the Kingdom of God.

The Gospel about the Kingdom of God that He told them about was to proclaim the good news to sinners, in order for them to recognize Him as the only Way through which they can gain eternal life.

Jesus gave them new revelations about the character of God to bring an end to the image of a distant far away God.

Not alone did He proclaim the truths about God and His Kingdom, but He also addressed things they did not understand in order to overcome confusion about the Gospel.

Jesus Healed The Sick

The Scripture also tells us that He healed all kinds of sicknesses and diseases.

English and Greek suggest the word ‘sickness’ is a less serious form of agony to endure than ‘disease’.

There are a lot of sicknesses that cannot be categorized under diseases that can cause suffering, for example, the common flu and nausea.

Nausea alone is not a disease but causes severe agony to endure.

Diseases are more serious and can be life-threatening.

Jesus healed the less serious as well as the life-threatening ailments.

Jesus showed no partiality to whom He healed.

He was a living testimony of His Godly character that was part of His mission, His love, loving-kindness, and compassion.

Jesus demonstrated that He is our Saviour and Healer, Who came to heal and bring restoration to us from the inside out, soul, spirit, and body.

How We Can Do As Jesus Did

Jesus preaches to the people to bring an end to their unawareness of Him and tell them about Him.  Similarly, we can testify to others about these things and bring them to a place where they will accept Christ as their Saviour.

Jesus taught the people to end confusion about Him.  Similarly, we can be His witnesses by the way we live and our testimonies about Him to demonstrate to others the true Messiah.

Jesus healed the people to show them that He had defeated pain and death.  Similarly, we too can tell others that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and came that we may have life more abundantly.  We can testify to always in all circumstances, sickness, and disease, to keep our faith and trust in Jesus and encourage them to go to a place where believers can pray for them for healing.

Let’s Get Practical

ApplicationWe will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon us to be His witnesses from the place where we are to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8).

Prayer points:  Pray that you will not grow tired while doing good, for at the right time we will reap the harvest if we endure (Galatians 6:9).

Promise:  Jesus promised us that He will not leave us alone to tend to ourselves, but He will send us His Holy Spirit to act as our Advocate to give us understanding, revelation, and direction (John 14:23-29).
