Identify Fear And Anxiety is a post written to help you identify and strategize against fear and anxiety. With God’s help it can be overcome forever!
Unfortunately fear and anxiety will not disappear by themselves.
Many times, in my life, when I was anxious about something, someone would ask me what the reason for my anxiety was and I was every time perplexed at the question.
Every time I thought how am I supposed to know what cause my anxiety.
The truth is that I was trying so hard to cope, that the little stresses and, big stresses became one giant cloud of anxiety hanging over me.
In this article, I’m going to explain some things that helped me a lot to pinpoint the source of stress and or anxiety.
I pray you will clearly discern the voice of the Holy Spirit ministering to you while reading this article.
Ten Tips To Help You Strategize Against Fear & Anxiety
1. Identify the cause of your stress and anxiety.
If you can answer this correctly, you can write a prayer strategy that will change your life forever.
The movie War Room explained this concept so beautifully, and I want to encourage everyone who hasn’t watched the movie to do so at your earliest convenience.
“The thief enters only to steal, kill, and destroy. I came so that they could have life—indeed, so that they could live life to the fullest.”
John 10:10 – CEB
When reading John 10:10 you see two different strategies for your life. First, it is satan’s strategy – he wants to steal, kill, and destroy.
Second, it is God’s strategy – He sends His son for us to have life to the fullest and abundantly.
My oldest daughter is an accountant and works from home to be available when her little boy needs her.
She must book her hours and get paid by the hour. There is one thing however that makes it very difficult to get her hours to get paid enough to make a living.
Her toddler is more at home sick than at the creche and the covid restrictions at the pre-school do not make it easier.
Almost every time he gets sick the symptoms are covid related and he cannot go to school, which means she cannot work and the bills pile up.
I don’t say satan is making my grandson sick, but I do know that he has a strategy to steal, kill and destroy.
By identifying your nr.1 cause for stress and anxiety you can write your prayer strategy to nullify the enemies’ strategies against you.
In this example, my daughter can pray for God’s divine protection and healing for her son and protection against obstacles and circumstances standing in her way and hindering her to do her work.
2. Keep your eyes on the goal.
“You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.”
2 Timothy 2:3-4
After we identified the cause of our stress and anxiety we must shift our focus from our problem to our Problem Solver.
As soldiers of Christ, we will suffer hardships, but we must take care not to get entangled in those hardships.
The only way not to get entangled in our problems, or allow them to overwhelm us is to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus.
Then we will please Him and it will be easy to run the race with our eyes on the goal.
3. Travel Light.
“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.”
Hebrews 12:1
Get rid of all the extra burdens……..leave them at the feet of God. Ask God to help you to surrender everything to Him, give all your problems and uncertainties to Him.
Ask the Holy Spirit to minister to you and if you have to confess any sins do so in order to lay aside extra weight.
Just like an athlete who cannot take extra baggage when running a race we also need to travel light when running our spiritual race.
4. Control your thoughts with the Word.
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall read [and meditate on] it day and night, so that you may be careful to do [everything] in accordance with all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will be successful.”
Joshua 1:8
“I sought (inquired of) the Lord and required Him [of necessity and on the authority of His Word], and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.”
Psalm 34:4
When we stay in the Word of God we have a finer ability to control our thoughts with the Word.
The only way I can think of describing this is like you are floating above reality and see it flooded with God’s supernatural divine intervention.
As your faith grows you will naturally know that this situation viewed from another point may look impossible, but nothing is impossible for God.
The Word will help your faith to grow and then we can intentionally start to replace negative thoughts with empowering thoughts for example: “This may look impossible to me, but nothing is impossible with God.”
5. Speak the Word.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life].
Proverbs 18:21
Everyone battling with anxiety should put a guard before their mouths.
Phrases like: ‘I can’t’ ‘This is too much for me’ should be removed from our vocabulary.
Our words have creative power.
If you constantly say: ‘I’m so nervous, this is making me anxious, I cannot take anymore, I’m feeling sick from this’ then that is what will happen, you will become fearful, unable to cope with anything.
Start writing down Scriptures of God’s strength and confess them to yourself. Soon you will notice you are calmer, happier, and more content.
Just like an eagle, you will soar far above the hold anxiety had over you.
6. Get nourishment from the Source of Life.
“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”
John 15:5
“But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”
Matthew 4:4
I love succulents and there are so many variants of these decorative plants.
Although they don’t need lots of water, they still need air and water to grow otherwise they will become weaker and shrink and die.
We need to get our nourishment from our Source of Life, otherwise, we will spiritually become weaker, shrink, and die.
7. Encourage yourself.
“Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.”
1 Samuel 30:6
This is one of my favorite Scriptures in the Bible!
When David was distressed, he encouraged himself in the Lord his God!
Ponder on this a moment: What do you do when a crisis emerges?
Do you grab the phone and start calling people you think can help?
Or do you send messages asking others for prayer?
And my hand goes up answering yes on all these questions.
There is nothing wrong to ask others for advice or prayers, but when we are distressed and we turn to God to encourage ourselves in Him, that stress and anxiety will lift on their own.
Dawid encouraged himself, he didn’t turn to someone else to encourage him, he didn’t ask God to supernaturally encourage him, while he did something else.
David encouraged HIMSELF in the Lord his God.
8. Praise and worship God.
“To console those who mourn in Zion,
Isaiah 61:3
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”
When you start to praise and worship God your eyes are on Him.
On His splendor, magnificence, and glory, you see His greatness and realize how small you are.
Praise and worship make the darkness flee, and replace it with peace and joy.
9. Build yourself in prayer.
“But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.”
Jude 1:20
Prayer most definitely builds our faith and it will build you as a person and human being as well.
Let the Holy Spirit guide you and He will minister to you and tell you if there is some burden you need to get rid of or something else you need to do to reduce stress in your life.
10. Implement faith-building practices.
Start by making positive changes in your life.
By implementing faith-building practices into your daily routine you build yourself spiritually and emotionally up and you start your journey to recovery with your hand safely in His hand.
