When we pray for healing

When We Pray For Healing
When We Pray For Healing

When We Pray For Healing will illustrate to you from Scripture the 5 Things To Keep In Mind When We Pray For Healing.

God is definitely more than able and willing to heal the sick.

Bless the Lord, O my soul;
And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:
Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases,

Psalm 103:1-3

Although this is supposed to be an easy subject to write about, it is not.

I wish that I could tell you that I am always healthy and vibrant, but that will be a lie.

If you want to skip the testimony from my friend who received healing from ovarian cancer and jump to the 5 Things To Keep In Mind When We Pray For Healing, you can click here.

Instead, it feels to me that I am always fighting a constant battle to be healthy.

When I was doing the foundation work to start this blog there were days that I was extremely sick from a sinus (which doesn’t sound like a real sickness but can let you feel that you are almost dying).

First, the mucus from the sinus got into my lungs which left me with bronchitis and as soon as I recover from it, I started to get splitting headaches, also sinus related.  And then the cycle will start again.

I did lie down because I really was very tired, but I also decided that I am going to fight this like every other battle and obstacle I encountered in my life before:  with the Word of God!

When you are a child of God, you will always pray for yourself and your loved ones for healing.

The statement is not supposed to be:  if we get sick, but when we get sick because the inevitable can always happen, then we must be ready to fight it with the Word of God.

A very dear friend of mine was diagnosed with level 4 gynaecologic cancer.

The doctor told her husband: ‘Sir, do you realize that your wife is really sick, and the possibility is there that she will not recover from this?’  He replied that he realizes that she is extremely sick and that he will do everything in his power to support his wife.

Every time I spoke to her after she was diagnosed, she told me that she looks forward to starting the chemo and start the road to recovery and that she prayed about it and have peace because she knows that the Lord will heal her.

The doctors didn’t want to do a hysterectomy because the cancer was so big, and they didn’t want to risk the chance that it can spread.

About a week before she was supposed to start her chemo treatment her husband died in front of her from a heart attack.

The next day she learned that he canceled his life insurance because he thought that she will die before him.

Just imagine how heartbroken she was, grieving the loss of her life partner, best friend, and father of their children and grandchildren……….no husband……….no money……….sick…………alone.

She used the last of their savings to bury him and had to keep working.

Through the chemo and radiation, she kept working, because she needs the money to support herself.

I love her dearly and have so much admiration for her.  Later she told me how hard it was for her to go alone through the treatment, and how she missed him, he was supposed to be there with her.

Every morning she got out of bed, put on her make-up, get dressed, and started her day.

She kept pushing herself and her confession always was that God is in control and that He will take care of her.

Not once did she blame God and look at all the bad things that are happening to her.

No, she keeps believing in God and knows that He will work everything out for the good.  And yes, I also gave her a set of my prayer cards for healing during this time.

Needless to tell you that the Lord did reward her with glowing health, she is now in remission and living a healthy life.

Below I will share with you a few things we need to consider when we pray for healing.

5 Things To Keep In Mind When We Pray For Healing

1. Pray For Forgiveness:

Not all sicknesses are the result of sin, but we are still human, and we must admit that we sin every day consciously or unconsciously.

Therefore, it is important to pray for forgiveness for your own sins as well as the sins of the people you are praying for.

I also pray that the veil will be removed to recognize hidden sins.

“Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases”

Psalm 103:3

2. We Need Faith

“But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.  For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;  he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”

James 1:6-8

To believe we must know without any doubt that nothing is impossible for God.  He is God Almighty and can accomplish more than we can imagine with our human minds.

“But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.”

Romans 8:11

Write this verse down on a piece of paper and paste it onto your mirror or anywhere you can see it.

Read it aloud through the day and start to proclaim and pray it and you will experience how all your doubt and unbelief start to disappear.

I LOVE this Scripture!

Can you see how powerful it is?!

If you had any doubt if God is able to heal you or anyone else for that matter, just reflect on this for a moment:  If (when you gave your life to Christ) the same Spirit of God which raised Jesus from the dead, is the same Spirit which dwells in us, and that same Spirit of God can give life to our mortal bodies and completely heal and restore us.

“Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.””

Mark 9:23

“And when He had come into the house, the blind men came to Him. And Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?”

They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.”

Then He touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith let it be to you.”  And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, saying, “See that no one knows it.””

Matthew 9:28-30

3. How To Increase Our Faith:

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Romans 10:17

Start to increase your faith by praying and speaking the Word of God over your life as well as everyone you are praying for.

4. God Wants To Heal Us

And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.”

Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

Matthew 8:2-3

I quote this Scripture because I believe with all my heart that God wants to heal everyone that is sick.

5. Prayer and fasting

I often pray about something and then the Holy Spirit starts ministering to me the reason God did not answer my prayer.

We do not need to know every time the reason for unanswered prayers, but I always suggest seeking God’s face with prayer and fasting when we pray for healing for ourselves or for others without any results.

“And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him and saying,  “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water.  So I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him.”

Then Jesus answered and said, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me.”  And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour.

Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?”

So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.  However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.””

Matthew 17:14-21

Some illnesses can be the result of demonic powers at work and therefore the sickness will not be healed except by prayer and fasting.

There are a lot of different fasts, and I will only briefly explain them here:

Before starting a fast it is advisable to check with your doctor or healthcare advisor.

People with serious health issues normally do the Daniel fast or intermittent fasting during the 16:8 window.

Remember: without prayer, your fast will only be a diet.

Complete fasting:

This is when you only drink water and don’t eat any solid food.

When you start a complete fast rather do it during a time when you don’t have a lot of responsibilities and do not have to work to give you time to rest and spend time in prayer.

It is also not recommended for long periods, rather a day or two up to a week, because it put so much strain on your body.

Daniel fast:

With the Daniel fast you can only eat fruit and vegetables.

No starches like bread, rice, pasta, and flour of any kind.

No meat, fish, chicken, or any animal products.

No eggs, milk, or any dairy products.

Only water and fruit juice, no tea, coffee, alcohol, or any other beverages.

Dried fruit and nuts are also allowed.

Intermittent fasting:

This is where you decide how many hours of the day or week you will eat, and how many hours of the day or week you will abstain from food.

The 5:2 window:

You fast two days of the week on complete fasting or only a limited amount of calories, but on the other five days, you eat normally.

Day-night or Eat-Stop-Eat window:

This is where you eat only during the night and nothing during the day.  People also use this to fast twice a week for 24 hours.

The 16:8 window:

Here you are allowed to eat 8 hours of the day and fast the other 16 hours like eat from 10-6 and fast then until 10 the following morning for 16 hours.
